WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18

SCIENCE—Like a bright torch shining into Portland's anti-fluoride, anti-vaccine, anti-GMO darkness, NPR's Science Friday comes to town with a live taping focusing on current science—with charming, whip-smart host Ira Flatow welcoming both local experts and an audience Q&A. Behold! Science Wednesday! EH
OMSI, 1945 SE Water, 7 pm, $20-25, all ages

MUSIC—With notable exceptions (Crimson, Louis XIV, the county that contains Seattle), people and things with "King" in their names generally don't deserve it. That rule, however, does not apply to King Buzzo (AKA Roger Osborne), a founding member of the Melvins. Buzzo and his big-ass hair are punk royalty, and you should genuflect accordingly. (Even though it'll be an acoustic show.) DCT
w/Steve Turner; Hawthorne Theatre, 1507 SE César E. Chávez, 8 pm, $12-15

THURSDAY, JUNE 19

COMEDY—Kevin Nealon was the best thing about Weeds for eight seasons. The consummate stand-up and SNL veteran rolls through town to spread his dry wit and smirking delivery to the Portland masses. I don't think he's much of a pothead, though, despite his Weeds character, so forego offering him a doobie and laugh at his storied jokes instead. CF
Helium Comedy Club, 1510 SE 9th, Thurs 8 pm, Fri-Sat 7:30 & 10 pm, $25-37

FILM—As part of the fashion-obsessed Fashion in Film series—cohosted by Portland Monthly's fashion editor, Eden Dawn (that name can't be real), and the Mercury's fashion columnist Marjorie Skinner—the Hollywood is screening Amy Heckerling's fashion-obsessed classic, Clueless! I have written "fashion" five times so far, which probably still isn't enough for Cher. EH
Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy, 9:30 pm, $8

FRIDAY, JUNE 20

DANCE—You like your dance nights sweaty, bangin', and most of all DIRTY. So you owe it to yourself to check out Pulla Muscle—a butt-swangin' dance party featuring hot 'n' nasty rap tracks that cover New Orleans bounce and Miami bass, as well as twerks from LA's DJ Mustard. And it's all being spun by the sure hands of DJs Nathan Detroit, Freaky Outty, and Cooky Parker. WSH
Tonic Lounge, 3100 NE Sandy, 9 pm, $5

CIDERS—It's that time of the year, when it's finally socially acceptable to lounge around outside and drink copious amounts of cider. Cider Summit Portlandis a two-day fest filled with 140 different ciders from all over the world. So bring a drinking pal and prepare to imbibe scrumptious fruity ciders 'til the sun goes down, or you fall down... whichever happens first. CF
The Fields Neighborhood Park, NW 10th & Overton, Fri 3-8 pm, Sat noon-6 pm, $25-35 (includes tasting glass, eight tasting tickets)

SATURDAY, JUNE 21

MUSIC—Ohio's Wussy is, plain and simple, a great American rock 'n' roll band. With songwriters Chuck Cleaver (formerly of Ass Ponys) and Lisa Walker, they turn heartland rock on its ear, injecting punk urgency, roots-folk sincerity, and noise-rock sturm und drang into their propulsive, gorgeous sound. Don't miss a very rare Portland appearance—it could be years before the next one. NL
w/Buckle Rash; Alhambra Theatre, 4811 SE Hawthorne, 9 pm, $8-10

BALLOONS!—Whimsical, wonderful balloons! Full of hot air! Yes, you have to get up really early to actually see the balloon launch at Tigard's Festival of Balloons, and yes, they're basically floating advertisements, and no, you can't ride in one—but if you're into weird suburban festivals this promises enough rides, beer, and fried food to keep you going at least until Tualatin's Crawfish Festival. AH
Cook Park, 17005 SW 92nd, Tigard, Fri-Sun, carnival Sat 9 am-11 pm, see tigardballoon.org for more details, FREE

SUNDAY, JUNE 22

PARKWAYS—As Transportation Commissioner Steve Novick says: "It turns out roads are like teeth. And it turns out a Portland where people walk, bike, relax, and eat popsicles in the middle of the city's tartaric incisors and crumbling molars is better than normal Portland." He says something like that. Stop by Sunday Parkways' North Portland iteration today where there'll be no cars allowed. DVH
Visit portlandoregon.gov/transportation for a route map, 11 am-4 pm, FREE

'90S MUSIC—I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I predict that Veruca Salt can only get away with one pass on the reunion tour train, amirite? The witty Chicago band you'll recall from the mid-'90s (you know, "Seether") has come out with a couple new ditties, though, and they sound just like old times. Now or never (I bet)! MS
w/the Echo Friendly; Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi, 9 pm, $22-25

MONDAY, JUNE 23

COMEDY—Funny Over Everything is the best comedy showcase in town, thanks to booking that regularly brings in respected comics who're right on the cusp of getting huge. Case in point: Jerrod Carmichael headlines tonight's show. He just recorded an HBO special—directed by Spike Lee, for chrissakes. Catch him now before he blows up. AH
Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy, 8:30 pm, $10

FILM—It's hard to think of a better film sequel than 22 Jump Street... I dunno... maybe Aliens? But Aliens didn't have the never-ending series of laughs Jump Street (and its stars Jonah Hill and Chatum) provides, or its plethora of smart, hilarious dick jokes. However, I'll allow that Aliens is just as good... just in different ways. (I'm just saving Aliens' feelings. 22 Jump Street is better.) WSH
Various Theaters, see Film Times

TUESDAY, JUNE 24

GRINDHOUSE—Technically, the star of the 1974 blaxploitation classic Truck Turner is Isaac Hayes. But the real reason you watch it is to have your wig blown back by Nichelle Nichols (Uhura from Star Trek) as the meanest madam you've ever seen, colder than a polar bear's toenails and meaner than a rabid dog. BR
Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy, 7:30 pm, $8

MUSIC—The Great Big Fais Do Do is a Cajun, country, and honky-tonk music fest that'll get your cowboy boots a-stompin'. Organized by local roots-music figurehead Caleb Klauder, the three-day to-do kicks off tonight with a visit from exceptional Minnesota twangers the Cactus Blossoms, plus some Cajun dancehall music from Dirk Powell and the Stumptown Aces. Laissez les bon temps rouler! NL
The Spare Room, 4830 NE 42nd, Tues-Thurs 9 pm, $10
