The City of Portland's Terminal 1 looks very much like it'll get the nod to become a homeless camp, but will that fly with the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. The Trib says it's unclear?
In case you missed it, Governor Kate Brown now says she supports a controversial measure headed to your ballot this November. Measure 97 would raise taxes on big corporations—to the tune of maybe $3 billion a year. Brown had been mum for months, leading to criticism from her predecessor in the governor's office.
Youch. And lots more bad news for the right-wing videographer who pulled a gun at a Black Lives Matter rally back in July. A grand jury just OK'd a 21-count indictment against him. Lots of felony charges in that bad boy.

Here's some really good news: After state legislators voted to phase out coal power in favor of renewable energy earlier this year, Republican legislators and some industry groups were flipping out because, they promised, we'd all see HUGE rate increases. Not the case, it turns out. Not at all.
If you can't sweep 'em, avoid 'em. That's apparently the strategy of the Hood to Coast Relay, which has decided re-route the race around a homelessness-heavy stretch of the Springwater Corridor now that Mayor Charlie Hales has said he won't force campers out until September 1.
Donald Trump is coming to town? And might actually hold a public event, not just a private fundraiser? A-plus troll job if he follows through!
Let's get the rest of the Trump news out of the way, quick-like: He and his veep still can't agree on whether to endorse Paul Ryan; his top foreign policy adviser on Israel is his attorney, who's merely vacationed there; and a former CIA director, making a political endorsement for the first time (for Hillary Clinton), writes in the NYT: "In the intelligence business, we would say that Mr. Putin had recruited Mr. Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation."
BTW: The Rio Olympics begin tonight! Y'all as stoked for the épée events as I am? (Also: Russia will be short 118 juiced-up athletes.)
You know how that one professor at Oregon State University is a foremost expert on the incoming armageddon coming our way courtesy of the Cascadia Subduction Zone? He's not been able to convince his employer not to build a huge new marine biology complex at ground zero.
New head honcho at the Oregonian. He comes to us from beautiful Reno so he should feel right at home.
Time to start making plans to sneak out of work early. (My coworkers have all perfected this technique—they just don't show up on Fridays.)
