This is Halloween. Everybody make a scene.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28

HECKLEVISION—Of all the times to see something in Hecklevision—when audience members can text jokes and see them pop up on the screen—few are better than tonight's GOP Debate, featuring Jeb! Bush, Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz, and, yes, fucking Donald Trump. Fish, meet barrel. ERIK HENRIKSEN
Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy, 5 pm, $5

MUSIC—Sure they serve up the best music videos being made 'round these parts, but local metal heavyweights Red Fang aren't to be missed live. That goes double if you can see them the week of Halloween, when they're expected to show off some shreddy, creepy new tunes. DIRK VANDERHART
w/Wild Throne, the Bugs; Star Theater, 13 NW 6th, 8:30 pm, $15

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29

DANCING—If you love fun, don't miss the Jungle Spaceship Ball featuring a dance contest for voguers and waackers! First popularized at LGBT dance clubs (and later by Madonna), vogueing focuses on precise movements, while waacking allows the arms to fly free—and both styles are amazing to watch live. Or enter the contest yourself, judged by waackers from Portland, NYC, and Mexico, hosted by drag sensation Alexis Campbell Starr, and music from JaRon the Fame. WM. STEVEN HUMPHREY
Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison, 9 pm, $10 ($5 to participate)

MUSIC—Hanson generated billions of teenage squeals in the '90s—but now they're all grown up and still just as dreamy and talented. Fans won't want to miss this two-night "long-form" concert in which they'll play covers from their fave artists (Michael Jackson, Billy Joel) tonight, followed by another concert tomorrow featuring their greatest hits. SQUEEEAL! WM. STEVEN HUMPHREY
w/Paul McDonald (Thurs), Carrick (Fri); Hawthorne Theatre, 1507 SE César E. Chávez, Thurs & Fri, 7 pm, $80 (includes both nights), all ages

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 30

MUSIC—It was 10 Halloweens ago that folk/punk/busker band the Builders and the Butchers performed their first show, and a decade later, they're still one of the most entertaining bands in town. They celebrate their 10-year anniversary with two shows at Bunk Bar; tonight they play before headliner Hillstomp, and tomorrow they'll close down Halloween night. NED LANNAMANN
w/Hillstomp; Bunk Bar, 1028 SE Water, Fri & Sat, 10 pm, $13 a night

MUSIC & BOOKS—Kristin Hersh is talent incarnate. She fronted Throwing Muses, started a nonprofit for musicians, and authored a host of books, including a new one about her long friendship with Vic Chesnutt, Don't Suck, Don't Die. She'll talk about it tonight at Powell's, then she'll jet over to the Mission for a show of sweet-sounding, double-edged rock. COURTNEY FERGUSON
Reading at Powell's City of Books, 1005 W Burnside, 7:30 pm, FREE;show at Mission Theater, 1624 NW Glisan, 9 pm, $20-25, all ages

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31

DANCE PARTY—The invite to tonight's Ghostbusters Ball Halloween dance party is addressed to Original Ghostbuster Bill Murray. Will he show? Who can say? The man's an enigma. But you're guaranteed to see many a tattooed beardo dressed up in his likeness, plus cheap booze and dance music from Dig a Pony's finest DJs. Who ya gonna call? MEGAN BURBANK
Eagles Lodge, 4904 SE Hawthorne, 9 pm, $10

TV—Not everybody gets to hit the town with a pillowcase full of candy. Some of us have to stay in and hand out said candy! So while you're stuck to the couch, why not watch the premiere of Ash vs. Evil Dead, the long-awaited return of Bruce Campbell to the role that made him a bona fide legend. BOBBY ROBERTS
Your TV, Starz channel, 9 pm, FREE

MUSIC—It's Halloween, and no one's exempt. So head down to Club 21 tonight to see a bunch of bands dressed up as other bands. Portland noise rockers Rabbits are going as New Jersey metal legends Danzig. There'll be cover bands rocking the Misfits, Bauhaus, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, too! DIRK VANDERHART
Club 21, 2035 NE Glisan, 9 pm, FREE

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 1

BOOKS—Sure, we had Sassy back in the stone ages, but Cute Band Alerts don't hold a candle to Editor in Chief Tavi Gevinson's amazing Rookie magazine. She celebrates the release of Yearbook Four today, a sizeable compendium of useful, artful, and entertaining articles that include interviews with Laverne Cox and TLC and tutorials on fake fur sandals and writing a college admissions essay. COURTNEY FERGUSON
Powell's Books at Cedar Hills Crossing, 3415 SW Cedar Hills, Beaverton, 2 pm, FREE

MUSIC—Shannon and the Clams are an Americana doo-wop, retro-inspired band from Oakland with a decidedly low-fi, garage-y sound and a twangy guitar, fronted by Shannon Shaw's killer vocals. They're in town tonight touring their fourth album, the heartbroken-flecked Gone By the Dawn. SHELBY R. KING
w/Shopping, the Woolen Men, Gazebos; Star Theater, 13 NW 6th, 8 pm, $12, all ages

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2

MUSIC—L7 has been around longer than most of you reading this preview. Donita Sparks and Suzi Gardner formed the LA band in 1985, and now the punk ladies of L7 are on a reunion tour after a 14-year hiatus. The were a big deal when I was in high school, and influenced many of the riot grrrls of the '90s. Take your parents and wear your flannels. SHELBY R. KING
w/Summer Cannibals; Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W Burnside, 8 pm, $24.50-29.50, all ages

MUSIC—Ahhhh, Vetiver. The medicinally named indie folk project from San Francisco singer/songwriter Andy Cabic is the aural equivalent of sitting inside under a pile of blankets on a cold, misty day. Tonight, Cabic plays Mississippi Studios, touring with a new album, Complete Strangers, a contemplative, precise gift of sonic catnip for indoor kids. Bring all the ambiverts you know! MEGAN BURBANK
w/Loch Lomond; Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi, 9 pm, $12-15

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3

MUSIC—It's easy to take Patty Griffin for granted. The singer/songwriter is so consistent, so masterful at turning American folk music tropes into gripping short stories that you can't go wrong with any of her albums. If she's easy to overlook, tonight's the perfect time to stop doing that, when she plays a Portland show in support of her spooky-good new album, Servant of Love. NED LANNAMANN
w/Darlingside; Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W Burnside, 8 pm, $35, all ages

FILM—There is a trailer for Room that you could watch at any time. You could. You shouldn't. Not even a second. Preserve the mystery, and stick to these simple facts: Brie Larson absolutely deserves every syllable of Oscar talk she's getting, and this movie is going to punch you in your guts. Hard.
