My, what a humpy week!

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13

MUSIC—Toro Y Moi is less and less the raw bunch of blips and beats that first wormed their way into your head a few years ago—these days, the kind of polished muse you might quietly drop on party guests who've had a bit of alcohol, but still aren't quite ready to wreck your increasingly fancy furniture. It races. Then it slows. It's not quite danceable. But it's always nice to hear. DCT
w/Classixx Live; Wonder Ballroom, 128 NE Russell, 8 pm, $20-23

BOOK—You already know American politics are shot through with billions of shadowy, malignant dollars, right? Well, know it better! With their new book, Dollarocracy, John Nichols and Robert McChesney detail how a pay-to-play system is imperiling American democracy, and how we might fix it. This is one of the great crises of our time, and well worth an hour of yours. DVH
Powell's City of Books, 1005 W Burnside, 7:30 pm, FREE

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14

COMEDY—Wes Anderson and Jason Schwartzman making tender love in a dollhouse. A gangbang featuring Friday Night Lights' Tami Taylor and the entire lineup of the East Dillon Lions. These hilarious (and sensual?) scenarios are just a taste of what past installments of Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction have dished up, as comedians create hilarious on-the-spot fan fiction based on audience suggestions. AH
Blue Monk, 3341 SE Belmont, 8 pm, $10

COMIC BOOKS—For months the Mercury's own Erik Henriksen and Alison Hallett have been curating the best comic book meet-up in town, Comics Underground—and November's installment has a super fun Western theme! Check out live performances from writer Kelly Sue DeConnick (Pretty Deadly), Scott Allie (editor-in-chief of Dark Horse Comics), and writer Frank Beaton (Outlaw Territory). Yee-haw! WSH
The Jack London Bar, 529 SW 4th, 8 pm, $3-5

AMATEUR PORN—Don't miss the Mercury's HUMP! amateur porn fest, where you'll be exposed to a pansexual display of proclivities alongside your diverse neighbors. It's fun, outrageous, and progressive! And we've just added an extra 1 pm Saturday screening with Dan Savage, who will answer your sexy questions live. MS
Cinema 21, 616 NW 21st, Thurs-Sun, $18, portlandmercury.com/hump for showtimes

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 15

DANCE—Let's wish a happy, ass-shaking birthday to Rock Box—DJ Kez and Matt Nelkin's monthly dance party—which is celebrating it's seven-year anniversary tonight with a barn-burning shindig featuring Matt and Kez, as well as turntable gymnastics from Red Bull Thre3style champ, Four Color Zack (straight outta Seattle). Tonight will be a night to sweat. WSH
Holocene, 1001 SE Morrison, 9 pm, $5

SMILEY—It's no mean feat to take on the Beach Boys on their own surfy turf, but 11 Portland bands have done just that by covering 1967's whimsical Smiley Smile album in full. Come to Tender Loving Empire's beach-party release show with performances by Rio Grands, Adam Brock, and more, at the Eagles Lodge, where smiley smiles—and stiff drinks—reign supreme. NL
w/New Move, Church of Surf; Eagles Lodge, 4904 SE Hawthorne, 8 pm, $5

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 16

ARTS—As local arts organizations go, few are more beloved than Disjecta—but art (the good kind, at least) doesn't come cheap... which means it's time for Disjecta's Seventh Annual Art Auction! With Andrew Dickson—eBay PowerSeller, life coach, and advertising genius—serving as auctioneer, you can bid on fantastic art and help Disjecta at the same time. EH
Disjecta, 3871 N Interstate, 7 pm, $25-30

GOODBYE—Fruit Bats—who helped lay down the world's current hunger for pop that's twangy, twee, and gorgeously earnest—is not just celebrating the 10th anniversary of 2003's Mouthfuls album. After tonight, the revolving-door project of Eric D. Johnson is calling it a day, hanging up its batwings for good. DCT
w/the Donkeys; Aladdin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie, 8 pm, $15

SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 17

MUSIC—Sometimes you just need some good, ol' fashioned, dirty rock 'n' roll to kick off the week. And that's exactly what you'll get when New York's Hunters blast their fashion-plate punk at top volume. And Fullerton, California's Audacity are sure to rev things up with joyously bratty, breakneck anthems. NL
w/Lee Corey Oswald; Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi, 9 pm, $8-10

THEATEROur Town is a scoffed-at staple of high-school theater programs—one of those plays that's so widely produced that it's tough to take seriously. But with an experimental, multimedia production, the edgy theater makers at Liminal hope to shake some of the dust off of Thornton Wilder's classic. Recommended for ages 14 and up, so that's something. AH
The Headwaters Theatre, 55 NE Farragut #9, Wed-Sat 7:30 pm, Sun 3 pm, $12-25

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18

MUSIC—Say what you will about Trent Reznor's career trajectory, but for all the metamorphosis he's undergone— from greasy club kid to Oscar-winning composer—one thing's stayed the same: Nine Inch Nails live is always a show that will knock you flat on your ass. BR
Moda Center, 1 Center Court, 7:30 pm, $29.50-59.50

BOUNCE—Move over, Miley! The true, reigning Queen of Twerking is the amazing Big Freedia (AKA the grand dame of New Orleans sissy bounce music). And Miss Freedia is bringing her particular brand of ass-jiggling, crowd-sweatin', call-and-response queer-core rap to the confines of Doug Fir—so if you do not like to drop that ass? You BEST be moving upstairs to the bar. WSH
Doug Fir, 830 E Burnside, 9 pm, $17

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 19

MUSIC—Experimental, introverted, character-driven, and a little sad: Bill Callahan's music is a mesmerizing sort of modern Americana, from the cattle-ranching depression of Apocalypse to the more domestic, most recent Dream River. Live, he's transcendent, badass, and very, very serious. MS
Aladdin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie, 8 pm, $20

SCIENCE—The great, maddening thing about public radio's Radiolab is it can briefly transform things you probably don't care about—what happens to flushed poop, for instance—into the most captivating, interesting thing in your world. Its new live show, Apocalyptical, serves up all that science-y goodness, PLUS the delightful Reggie Watts. DVH
Keller Auditorium, 222 SW Clay, Mon & Tues 8 pm, $41.50-161
